Hey Guys! I thought it would be fun to do an update on what my Goodreads challenge and reading list are looking like these days. I’ve recently cleaned out my TBR, meaning I still have all those books on my shelves at home, but I’m trying to dedicate my virtual shelf to ARCs that need to be read and reviewed yesterday ASAP. I’ve been very careful for the past couple of months on which books I’m taking right now, as we are preparing for another move this winter and I know this will leave little to no time for book reviews. 😦 I’ve done well, going from almost 100 ARCs of various formats down to around 40! Woo Hoo! I’m hoping these update posts will be a way for me to reach out for help from you in holding me accountable, so here we go…

Here you can find my shelves and they are fairly straightforward. Like I stated above, my to-read shelf is dedicated only to ARCs until I can get that number down. This isn’t to say that I won’t be reading other books in the midst, just that I won’t be housing them there. I try to specify where I received the book via From-Publisher, Giveaways, or NetGalley, and if it’s a book that I’ve reviewed for the She Reads Book Club I specify there as well. Eventually I would like to branch out and create more shelves; if you have any suggestions for ones that are popular or would be helpful please let me know!
Here’s my favorite part; the Goodreads Reading Challenge! Throws confetti and dances around in rainbows and sunshine. I’m quite on track for this, which is probably why it’s my favorite, and once I reach 200 (given it’s before the end of the year) I plan on upping the number to keep pushing how far I can go. My final count for 2016 was 230 books, so I’m hoping to at least hit that number, but I’d like to hit 250 if possible. That said, next year I’ll likely be slowing down a bit, so I’m trying to take advantage of the high numbers while I can. 😉

I remain in awe of you and your capabilities as a reader and a blogger! 250 books a year is a goal I aspire to in my wildest dreams! I think its awesome that you’ve developed a plan to see your way through your backlog of ARCs. I did the same thing with my Netgalley and Edelweiss books- shelve them togther on Goodreads and read them by publication date so I ensure I never miss a review being on time. It’s been slow work but I’ve pared down my Netgalley % to a 79%, so I feel pretty good about that.

250 books makes my own goal or 52 or 1 book per week seem pretty insignificant lol. Where do you find the time to read so many books?!

Not at all! I think everyone has a different pace of life and schedule, not to mention speed of reading. I’m a stay at home mom and I have loads of reading time throughout the day. 5 days a week I go to the gym while my kids play in childcare and read for 1-2 hours on the cardio equipment. My kids are young and still nap so that’s another couple of hours. When my daughter has therapy I’m reading in the waiting room for an hour. My husband travels a good bit for work so when he’s gone and the kids are in bed I’m usually reading until I fall asleep.

Impressive. I’m only at 112 books and will keep going until year’s end. No real goal there.

I’m at 95 and reset my goal awhile back to 125 but I’m sure I’m going to go past that. After all we are only 2/3 of the way through the year. I can’t remember how many books I read when I had little kids, but I was a teacher so I had the summers off to catch up on reading. My father always told the story about getting 10 books for Christmas and finishing them that week so reading runs in the family.

I try to keep my TBR in check too, it’s a bit over 130 books, but I know that comparing to many it’s still very compact – so I’m good with that 🙂

That is some impressive list, your doing well and love how organised you are, I have two shelves one for library books and one for net galley books. I originally set my goal at 90 but knew I wouldn’t do it so changed it and it’s 60 and I’ve read 40.

That’s at least 3 years of my reading that you’re doing in one year :-)! Also 5000 friends, wow! On one side I wish I had more Goodreads friends, on the other side, I’d be afraid I’d be adding even more books then 😉

Thanks Inge! I’m always adding new books and it’s terrible. For the meantime I’ve been adding them all to my Amazon wishlist which I think is worse for my wallet 😱😂

200 books is seriously impressive! I set my goal at 60, but have read 65 so far and am very pleased with myself. I’m hoping to maybe hit 100 by the end of the year — that would definitely be my biggest reading year to date.
I love the idea of a Goodreads clear out. I have so many duplicates from the change over from US to UK editions when I moved here.

Great post. I am awful at organisation! Too impulsive 😯. My goodreads challenge is failing this year, I set myself 150 books and I have only done 75 with 4 months to go!

Haha that’s how I was back in 2015. I think I read maybe 20 books that year? 🙊🙈

Sounds like an awesome goal! I had 200 but I went to second shift for a while and it messed up my reading schedule and went I went back to overnights, I couldn’t catch up. So I went down to 150. Now I’m like way ahead of schedule but I’ll probably just push it up like you do.
I usually am concerned about tracking my owned books. So I always try and make sure I mark my own books. Other than that, I’m not picky about my shelves. They are still a work in progress a year later! lol.
