Book Title: The Snow Queen
Author: Hans Christian Andersen
Genres: Children’s Fiction
Long before Disney’s Frozen I was a huge fan of The Snow Queen. I won’t rehash the plot as many of you have read it, or at least are familiar with the story, and my purpose of this review is to focus on this particular publication of the story. The version is the same, but this one bridges the gap between child and adult brilliantly. The tale is already somewhat over the heads of many children, and I feel was done so purposefully. It seems we’ve lost the art of writing our children/YA books at a higher level and challenging them to rise to it, but this is just what The Snow Queen does.
The illustrations in this particular model are GORGEOUS. Full of color and rich culture, these pictures are just as responsible for telling the tale as the words are. I particularly love the fold embellishments on the fabric hardcover. This would be a great gift for someone as it can be read and then placed on a coffee table for aesthetic pleasure or even kept on a bookshelf in a place of honor. I’m so grateful I had the chance to get my hands on this special edition as this is one of my favorite childhood stories.
